Chelsea has spent heavily on unproven elite players over the last several windows, and they are attempting to shift gears to a policy of pursuing established talent and being more selective with the prospects they pursue.
Willian Estevao is the top prospect on the list and is practically a done deal, therefore Chelsea’s remaining summer effort will be focused on signing known great players.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea has already made a transfer offer to Barcelona for star center back Ronald Araujo.
Aside from a few players like Lamine Yamal and Pedri, everyone at Barcelona is on the verge of leaving this summer, or is open to offers.
Ronald Araujo is an intriguing example because he is a 25-year-old, world-class center defender that the club highly values.
But they also know he could fetch around 100 million euros, so if the right offer comes up, Barcelona may be willing to sacrifice him.
It is unclear how much Chelsea want to bid for Araujo, who might become an even more important target if the club reunites with manager Thomas Tuchel.
The German coach is a big fan of Araujo’s, and he attempted to sign the Uruguayan star for Bayern Munich this winter despite protests about his own expensive center backs.
