Liverpool make proposal to sign ‘explosive’ midfielder likened to Xabi Alonso and Arne Slot wants him quick

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has already identified a potential summer recruit for his midfield.

The former Feyenoord boss has taken over the reins at Anfield following Jurgen Klopp’s emotional departure.

Tasked with helping the Reds return to the peak of their powers both domestically and in Europe, Slot is said have already sounded out a talented teenager.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Liverpool are looking to bring in Assan Ouedraogo from Schalke.

The Merseysiders are just one club to have submitted a proposal, while Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Newcastle all remain interested too.

At just 18, Ouedraogo impressed in the German second division last season, making 17 appearances and scoring three goals.

Touted to be much like former Liverpool man Xabi Alonso in his style of play, the teenager likes to drop deep to receive the ball whilst also possessing superb passing abilities.

Bayern Munich are also said to be sniffing around the midfielder as his future remains a hot topic this summer.

Schalke boss Karel Geraerts has continued to sing the praises of Ouedraogo and believes it is only a matter of time before his big-money move will arrive.

“Assan is an outstanding player and a big talent, that’s certain,” the Schalke boss said last year.

“There are many rumours surrounding his name, and the clubs he is being linked to, but that is normal in football.

“As a coach, it is the most important for me to have good conversations with him to ensure that he feels comfortable, and to guide him on his journey. We can’t forget that he is still very young.”

Schalke have Ouedraogo tied to a contract through to 2027, but according to reports in Germany, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has already spoken to his representatives, as they look to lure him to the Allianz Arena.
