Real Madrid coach sets sights on €90 million-rated Arsenal defender

Real Madrid learned from the 2023-24 season that their central defense lacks depth.

Having coped with the absence of two defenders for much of the season, Carlo Ancelotti and his team are now aiming to bring in a new player in that position by June. With Nacho Fernandez likely leaving Madrid, the demand for a new center-back is even greater.

Real Madrid is considering various center-back options, and Leny Yoro has emerged as a top contender. However, reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest that Carlo Ancelotti is eyeing Arsenal’s William Saliba.

At 23, Saliba is integral to Mikel Arteta’s plans and offers a blend of youth and experience, making him an appealing choice for Real Madrid.

The obstacle in pursuing Saliba is his contract with Arsenal until 2027, valued at around €90 million, and Arsenal’s reluctance to sell. They are even considering renewing his contract, making him an improbable target despite Ancelotti’s interest.

However, Real Madrid will benefit from the return of Rafa Marin next month. On loan at Deportivo Alaves, the 21-year-old Castilla player has become a regular starter, contributing to seven clean sheets and averaging close to ten defensive actions and 3.7 ball recoveries per game.

Marin’s future with Real Madrid depends on their ability to sign a high-quality defender this summer. Nevertheless, based on his performance, he is capable of filling the current void in the team.
