United might have an edge in pursuing Ederson. The Brazilian mainly plays as a defensive midfielder for Atalanta, and his strong positioning is a key asset—something United lacked last season. Casemiro frequently left gaps in the defense with his forward-pressing style, allowing opponents to create scoring opportunities. Ederson, at 24, could be an ideal replacement. He excels in winning tackles and duels, recovering the ball, and has been praised as ‘monstrous’ by Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Additionally, Ederson is a more reliable ball distributor and loses possession less often than Casemiro.
