Defender, A Move That Signals Their Relentless Pursuit Of Top Talent. With The Transfer Window Being Open Soon, United Fans Can Expect An Exciting Chase As The Club Aims To Bolster Its Defense. This Potential Acquisition Could Be A Game-Changer, Reinforcing United’s Commitment To Reclaiming Their Glory Days. Manchester United Snubs Everton To Secure Europe Top Talent.

Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sign Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt. According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have begun internal discussions about a possible transfer for de Ligt. The 24-year-old may leave Bayern if a suitable offer comes in, as he has fallen down the pecking order. United head coach Erik ten Hag is very interested in reuniting with de Ligt, having enjoyed significant success together at Ajax between 2017 and 2019.

United believe an offer of around £42 million could persuade Bayern to sell. They are looking to sign at least one center-back this summer, with Raphael Varane set to leave Old Trafford in two weeks when his current deal expires. Jonny Evans is in a similar position, but negotiations are ongoing for a contract extension. Victor Lindelof’s future at United is uncertain, with Fenerbahce showing interest in him.

Bolstering the defense is a priority for United, and de Ligt would be a valuable addition. A £42 million deal would be financially viable for United, considering de Ligt’s world-class talent and potential. He excels with the ball, achieving a 92 percent passing accuracy in the Bundesliga last season. De Ligt might be tempted by the chance to reunite with his former Ajax manager, who made him captain as a teenager.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly United’s top defensive target. Recent reports suggest the Red Devils have agreed on personal terms with the promising youngster. United have already made a £45 million offer, though it is expected to be rejected. Branthwaite had an impressive 2023/24 season, helping Everton stay in the top flight despite an eight-point deduction.

Other alternatives United are considering to strengthen their defense include Gleison Bremer, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Leny Yoro.
