According To Reports This Evening As It Is Confirmed That Liverpool Is Set To Open Talks For Bayer Leverkusen’s Star Florian Wirtz For Possible Transfer This Summer. Arne Slot Wants Florian Wirtz As His First Signing.

Liverpool has shown a significant interest in German international Florian Wirtz, a crucial player under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Nevertheless, Fabrizio Romano reports that Wirtz intends to remain with Leverkusen “for at least one more year,” despite the links to Liverpool. Romano mentioned, “Florian Wirtz has indicated that his current plan is to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, which aligns with my understanding – his focus is fully on Leverkusen and the upcoming Euros.

“There are no ongoing negotiations, and sources close to Wirtz believe staying at Leverkusen for at least another year is the best option. In football, nothing is ever certain, but it’s quiet for now.”

The 20-year-old has already netted 28 goals in 36 matches across all competitions for Leverkusen this season.

Wirtz’s future seems closely linked to his manager. In February, Christian Falk reported for CaughtOffside: “Florian Wirtz (20) is crucial for Alonso. He enjoys complete freedom under his coach. For Wirtz, it’s clear: if Alonso stays, he will remain beyond 2024. But if Alonso moves to Liverpool in the summer, Wirtz might follow.”

This scenario presents an intriguing possibility for Liverpool supporters, particularly if Alonso were to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

It remains uncertain whether Liverpool would be willing to pay a substantial transfer fee for Wirtz, given the club’s other transfer priorities. Nonetheless, this is a situation to monitor closely.
