Throughout his career, he played for several prominent clubs, including Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham, and Hertha BSC. He retired from professional football in 2016.

 

Transitioning into coaching, Heitinga initially worked within the youth teams at Ajax, where he honed his coaching skills. His potential as a coach was recognized, leading to his appointment as the head coach of Ajax’s senior team from January to June 2023. His tenure at Ajax showcased his capability to manage and develop a top-tier team.

 

In the previous season, Heitinga served as the first-team assistant coach at West Ham United, gaining valuable experience in the English Premier League. His role at West Ham further solidified his reputation as a capable and strategic coach.
