Paris Saint-Germain is increasingly confident of signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, despite competition from Chelsea.
Napoli managed to retain Osimhen last year after his impressive Serie A season, where he won the Golden Boot with 26 goals in 32 games.
They extended his contract until 2026, primarily to protect his market value.
Now, Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis has acknowledged Osimhen will leave this summer, setting a release clause around £113m last year.
However, Napoli is now willing to accept around €100m (£84.1m), a figure Chelsea finds too high. PSG, however, has received approval from Osimhen to intensify their pursuit and negotiate terms, aiming to finalize a deal despite expected tough negotiations with Napoli.
Osimhen, who gained prominence at Lille before joining Napoli in 2020 for €77.5m (£65.2m), has scored 76 goals and 18 assists in 133 games for Napoli. PSG sees him as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe.
Chelsea’s pursuit of a prominent striker faces another setback with PSG closing in on Victor Osimhen.
However, PSG’s interest in Osimhen could benefit Chelsea by facilitating the departure of Romelu Lukaku, whom Napoli is eyeing as Osimhen’s replacement.
Fabrizio Romano suggests that if Osimhen moves to PSG, Napoli will intensify their efforts to sign Lukaku, whom their manager Antonio Conte enjoyed success with at Inter Milan.
Despite Chelsea’s substantial investment in Lukaku, he has struggled to replicate his Serie A form in the Premier League. Chelsea now seeks to offload him permanently, willing to accept a significant loss on the £97.5m they paid to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.
Following Lukaku’s underwhelming performance at Euro 2024, where he failed to score in four matches as Belgium exited in the last-16 stage, Chelsea is reportedly open to selling him for around £37.5m, with just two years left on his contract.
