Romano further clarified that there are currently no active negotiations, and sources close to Wirtz believe remaining at Leverkusen is the optimal decision for now. Despite football’s unpredictable nature, the situation surrounding Wirtz seems stable at the moment.
The 20-year-old has had an impressive season, scoring 28 goals in 36 matches across all competitions for Leverkusen. His future seems closely linked to his manager; as Christian Falk reported in February for CaughtOffside, “Florian Wirtz (20) is essential for Alonso. He enjoys great freedom under his coach. For Wirtz, the situation is clear: if Alonso stays, he will likely remain beyond 2024. However, if Alonso moves to Liverpool this summer, Wirtz may follow.”
