Liverpool are contemplating signing three new players this summer, with recent reports explaining why their bid for Wataru Endo was rejected.
The Reds have recently declined an offer for Endo. According to a new report, Liverpool is considering strengthening three key positions before the start of the 2024/25 season.
This summer transfer window has been notably quiet for Liverpool, making them the only Premier League club without a new signing so far. In fact, they are the sole team in Europe’s top five leagues yet to make any additions since the transfer window opened on June 14, which has understandably caused some concern among fans.
Arne Slot, however, remains composed regarding the transfer activity. “One reason is that I want to evaluate the players I have, which is challenging because many aren’t here,” he said during their pre-season tour. “Inheriting a strong team makes it difficult to find players of equal or superior quality. We are waiting for our players to return and for the right additions to become available.”
Liverpool is expected to become more active once Slot has fully assessed his squad after their return from international duties.
Where are they looking to make additions? According to The Athletic, Liverpool is primarily interested in players aged 24 or younger who possess significant experience.
There have been discussions about acquiring a centre-back following Joel Matip’s departure, an attacking wide player, and a holding midfielder. The latter may pose a challenge due to Liverpool’s specific requirements for that role.
Liverpool recently turned down a bid from Marseille for Wataru Endo, believing there are currently no affordable and suitable options for the No.6 role. Reports suggest that Slot is reluctant to let Endo leave this summer, as Marseille’s offer did not meet Liverpool’s valuation of the Japanese player.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool and manager Arne Slot are determined not to weaken their midfield by allowing Endo to leave.
Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Ipswich Town is scheduled for August 17, with the transfer window closing on August 30 at 11pm UK time.
