Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has recently addressed the speculation about his future amid rumors of a possible summer exit. The Polish striker, who is under contract with the Spanish club until 2026, has affirmed his dedication to remaining at Barcelona and honoring his contract.
This season has proven difficult for Barcelona, as their performance has not reached the level of the previous year. They are currently in second place in La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by 12 points with one game left. This drop in performance has placed additional pressure on manager Xavi and resulted in several key players underperforming. Although Lewandowski won the Pichichi Trophy last season, he has scored only 18 goals in 34 league matches this season, which falls short of his usual high standards.
The club’s financial struggles and Lewandowski’s substantial salary have fueled speculation about his departure. However, Lewandowski has clarified his position in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, stating his firm intention to remain with Barcelona and secure more titles. He said:
“Of course, it is very clear to me. I want to win many titles with Barcelona, and I am confident that next season we will be even stronger and will win titles. I always aim for the best, not just for myself but for my teammates, and I am sure this team will win titles next season because I see our daily work. That is what matters to me because this is a club that is dear to my heart, and I want to contribute significantly to the team and the club.”
Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 and quickly made an impact by helping them secure a La Liga title in his first season. Since his arrival, the 35-year-old striker has scored 58 goals in 94 appearances for the club.
Additionally, Lewandowski has commented on the significant effect of Gavi’s injury absence. The young midfielder, who suffered an ACL injury while representing Spain in November, had only played 12 league matches this season before his injury. In an interview with Marca, Lewandowski highlighted Gavi’s importance to the team despite his youth, noting that he has already made over 100 appearances for Barcelona. He said:
“From the start, we knew his absence would be felt. He is the kind of player who can lift the team when things aren’t going well with his movements and intensity. Every squad needs such players, which is why we miss him. But since he is not available, we have to wait for his return. He is a special player, and from my arrival, I saw that he has qualities the team needs. He has talent and determination.”
Gavi is expected to be fit for the pre-season but will not participate in Euro 2024 with Spain. Both Gavi and the club are hopeful for his strong return next season to support Barcelona’s pursuit of further titles.
