Jurgen Klopp, previously the manager of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, has announced his retirement from coaching, although he hinted at a possible return in the future. At 57 years old, Klopp has chosen to leave the sport, ending his nine-year stint with Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
There was initial speculation that Klopp might take a one-year sabbatical before resuming his coaching career. However, his recent comments suggest his retirement may be more final than anticipated. While he hasn’t completely ruled out a future return, Klopp has indicated that he might not coach again, leaving his future in the sport in question. “As of today, that’s it for me as a coach. I didn’t quit out of a mood, but it was a general decision. I’ve also coached the best clubs in the world,” he mentioned at a coaching conference in Germany, according to Kicker.
“Whether I’d coach again, I’d say no as of now. But maybe we can talk about it in a month from now.”
“I am motivated to work in football, to help others with my experience and contacts. We will see what comes.”
Although Klopp was rumored to be a candidate for the vacant English head coach position, he stated, “it would be the biggest loss of face in football history” if he reversed his decision to take a break.
