Curtis Jones has addressed accusations of disrespecting Jurgen Klopp following his recent comments.
Jones, who was given his senior debut by Klopp in 2019 during an FA Cup match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, has made 133 appearances and scored 16 goals for Liverpool under the German manager. With Klopp now no longer at the club, Jones has spoken about the influence of new head coach Arne Slot on him and the team.
During Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, Jones expressed his enthusiasm for Slot’s approach, noting that it aligns well with the team’s style and includes a focus on detail and a more methodical style of play. He explained that while past methods felt too direct, Slot’s approach encourages more controlled play.
Following his remarks, some fans perceived Jones’s comments as disrespectful toward Klopp. In response, Jones clarified after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal that his intention was not to undermine Klopp. He emphasized his deep respect and appreciation for Klopp and his staff, explaining that his comments were meant to highlight the new style under Slot and how it has given him confidence and a greater sense of responsibility.
