Liverpool manager Arne Slot has acknowledged that, despite his attempts to convince Fabio Carvalho to remain at the club, the player has chosen to depart this summer. Carvalho, who stood out in the pre-season game against Manchester United, is expected to move to a different Premier League club.

Liverpool has reportedly declined an initial proposal from Southampton for their attacking midfielder, Fabio Carvalho. As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool turned down Southampton’s £15 million offer for the 21-year-old. The Reds, having observed Carvalho on loan at various clubs over the past two years, are open to selling him but are seeking a higher bid than what was initially presented.

Carvalho, who has been on loan at both FC Porto and a Championship side since joining Liverpool, is seeking more consistent playing time, which Southampton’s manager Russell Martin could offer. Despite Carvalho’s impressive pre-season form, including a goal against Manchester United, Liverpool prefers a permanent transfer over another loan.

This situation comes after Southampton’s promotion to the Premier League and their enhanced financial status, which has allowed them to make several notable signings. They are expected to make a revised offer for Carvalho in an attempt to secure him. Southampton’s active approach in the transfer market demonstrates their strong interest in the young player.

Liverpool’s position on Carvalho indicates a willingness to negotiate but with the goal of reaching a deal that meets their expectations. Their rejection of the initial offer reflects their desire to achieve a more advantageous arrangement, given Carvalho’s potential and pre-season performance.

With Southampton having bolstered their squad and showing a commitment to further improvements, the situation regarding Carvalho’s transfer remains fluid. Southampton will likely submit a new offer as they continue their efforts to include Carvalho in their Premier League plans.
