Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has recently addressed speculation about his future with the team amid rumors of a potential summer departure. Despite having a contract with the Spanish club until 2026, the Polish striker has affirmed his dedication to remaining with Barcelona and honoring his contract.
This season has been tough for Barcelona, with their performance falling short of last season’s standards. They currently hold second place in La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by 12 points with one game left. This drop in form has put pressure on manager Xavi and led to several key players underperforming. Last season, Lewandowski won the Pichichi Trophy, but this season he has netted only 18 goals in 34 league appearances, a relatively modest tally by his usual standards.
Given the club’s financial troubles and Lewandowski’s substantial salary, speculation about his exit has intensified. However, Lewandowski refuted these rumors in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, stating his clear intention to remain at Barcelona and secure more trophies. He said:
“Of course, it is very clear to me. I want to win many titles with Barcelona, and I am confident that next season we will be stronger and also win titles. I always strive for the best, not only for myself but for my teammates, and I believe this team will achieve titles next season because I see our daily efforts. That’s what matters to me because this is a club I cherish, and I want to contribute significantly to the team and the club.”
Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 and made an immediate impact by helping them win La Liga in his first season. Since his arrival, the 35-year-old has scored 58 goals in 94 matches for the club.
Additionally, Lewandowski has commented on the notable absence of Gavi due to injury. The young midfielder, who sustained an ACL injury while representing Spain in November, had played only 12 league matches this season before his injury. In an interview with Marca, Lewandowski highlighted Gavi’s crucial role for the team despite his youth, having already made over 100 appearances for Barcelona. He remarked:
“From the start, we knew we would miss him. He’s a type of player who, when things aren’t going well, can lift the team with his movements and intensity. Teams need players like that, and that’s why we miss him. But without him, we just have to wait for his return. He’s a special player; since I arrived, I’ve seen he has qualities the team needs. He has talent and drive.”
Gavi is anticipated to recover in time for the pre-season, but he will not participate in Euro 2024 with Spain. Both Gavi and the club are hopeful for his strong comeback next season to support Barcelona’s quest for titles.
