Liverpool’s efforts to strengthen their defense have encountered a setback, as one of their targets, Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho, seems to be eluding them. The Ecuadorian defender is reportedly in the midst of a medical examination with PSG and is expected to finalize a long-term deal that will keep him in Paris until 2029, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany.
The Reds had shown interest in Pacho, with The Independent’s Miguel Delaney mentioning their pursuit as recently as last week. Now, Liverpool will need to explore other defensive options, particularly since Newcastle United is also pursuing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi—a player Liverpool had shown interest in earlier this year. While Liverpool has not yet made a formal move for Guehi, they are considering other potential targets. Players such as Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie, and Stade Rennais’ Arthur Theate are rumored to be under consideration.
With the transfer window still open, Liverpool’s recruitment team has time to investigate these alternatives and reinforce their defense for the upcoming season.
