OFFICIAL NOW: Arsenal completes the signing of a £70 million attacker after the board agreed to unlock funds for his deal last night. The medical will take place today. Here we go!

Arsenal might look to challenge Liverpool’s efforts to acquire Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer, as reported by journalist David Lynch. The Gunners are aiming to bolster their midfield in the current transfer window and have been associated with various players recently.

Earlier in the transfer period, Arsenal was connected with Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana, and Bruno Guimaraes as possible signings. While Guimaraes has moved to Juventus and Onana to Aston Villa, Zubimendi was also considered by Arsenal. However, the team seems to have shifted their attention to Zubimendi’s teammate Mikel Merino, with whom they have reached a personal agreement and are now in discussions with Real Sociedad.

On the other hand, Liverpool has expressed interest in Zubimendi to strengthen their midfield. Lynch mentioned on his YouTube channel that other clubs might attempt to intervene in Liverpool’s pursuit, with Arsenal potentially reigniting their interest. However, he also observed that Arsenal appears to be focusing on other midfield targets at this time.

Lynch remarked: “With this news now public, there’s always a chance other clubs might enter the fray for his signature. Arsenal could renew their interest, though they seem to be concentrating on other midfield options.”

Zubimendi’s contract includes a £51 million release clause, meaning Arsenal would need to make a significant financial commitment to secure the Spanish international. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make a formal move for Zubimendi before the transfer window closes.
