With the new season just a week away, Liverpool must start taking action. While their pursuit of Martin Zubimendi is intensifying, player departures from Anfield are also on the horizon.
Billy Koumetio’s departure is imminent. With three weeks remaining in the transfer window, Liverpool still has some outgoing transfers to finalize. While no major first-team departures are anticipated, players like Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho are attracting interest.
Liverpool’s recent US tour highlighted the club’s talented young players, though not all will be featured in the first team. Many will need to be loaned out or sold.
One young player not included in the US tour was Billy Koumetio. At 21, Koumetio is deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield. Despite being praised by Liverpool U21’s coach Barry Lewtas and Jurgen Klopp, his development has not met expectations.
Following an unsuccessful loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last season, Koumetio is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Dundee United, according to journalist Marc Mechenoua. He will sign a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.
There has been some confusion about his destination. While Mechenoua reports Dundee United, local sources suggest Koumetio might actually be joining Dundee FC. Regardless, it is time for Koumetio to find regular football and continue his development.
