Manchester United is preparing to compete against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, with the significant advantage of Harry Maguire rejoining the squad.
Maguire missed the previous match against Liverpool in South Carolina due to precautionary measures. His participation in the upcoming game against City was initially uncertain, as noted by manager Erik ten Hag on Thursday.
Nevertheless, the 31-year-old central defender has traveled with the United squad to London for their season opener.
Key players Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw were not present when the team departed from Stockport Station.
“Harry Maguire missed the Liverpool match as a precaution, but his availability for Saturday is still in question,” Ten Hag said on Thursday. “We have more training sessions ahead to evaluate his fitness. The same applies to Victor, Aaron, and Luke; we’ll review their conditions tomorrow.”
The team journeyed to London by train, similar to their approach for the FA Cup final earlier this year.
Seventeen-year-old Harry Amass is also expected to make his debut after featuring in all three of United’s pre-season games in the U.S.
Additionally, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot have rejoined the squad after their international commitments.
