Manchester United has elevated two of their academy players to the first-team squad in preparation for the upcoming season.
Recently, United faced rivals Manchester City in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley. Although they held the lead late in the match, Bernardo Silva equalized for City, who ultimately triumphed in the penalty shootout. With their Premier League season commencing on Friday night against Fulham, United has included two of their young talents in the first-team roster.
Full-back Harry Amass and forward Ethan Wheatley have been officially recognized as first-team players on the club’s website.
As the summer transfer window nears its conclusion, United is expected to bring in at least two additional players. They have already secured striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and defender Leny Yoro from Lille, and reports suggest they are close to acquiring Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared on social media: “Manchester United have scheduled Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to complete most of their medical examinations at the club today. Monday is set to be the day: arrival, travel to Carrington, medical assessments, and five-year contracts are ready.”
Following the defeat to City at Wembley, United manager Erik ten Hag stated: “You need to acknowledge the pain. Use it as motivation for a successful season, but also recognize the positives we displayed against a top ball-playing team. We managed to press effectively against a strong pressing side and outplayed them at times. I was very pleased. After half an hour, we were competitive, engaged in the fight, and displayed the passion we expect from our players. It was encouraging, and we can build on this for next week against Fulham.”
