Ivan Toney is attracting interest from two Premier League teams as surprising details emerge about a possible summer transfer.
Toney continues to be strongly associated with a departure from Brentford as the new Premier League season approaches.
Tottenham and West Ham United had shown interest in acquiring the talented forward before signing Dominic Solanke and Niclas Fullkrug, respectively.
However, Manchester United and Chelsea are still monitoring the 28-year-old this summer. The Independent reports that Brentford is seeking a hefty £60 million, down from the £100 million they demanded in January.
Both Manchester United and Chelsea are considering testing Brentford’s stance on Toney by proposing a loan arrangement with a commitment to buy.
Arsenal previously arranged a similar deal with Brentford for David Raya, who initially joined on loan before moving for £30 million this summer.
This approach could help Brentford secure a fee closer to their target while allowing the clubs to adhere to financial regulations. Manchester United, who recently signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, are still looking to add to their squad, with a forward high on their priority list due to Rasmus Hojlund’s injury.
Chelsea, under Enzo Maresca, is also seeking a goalscorer after missing out on Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid and facing challenges in negotiations with Napoli for Victor Osimhen.
Toney remains a viable option for both Manchester United and Chelsea, but Brentford’s Thomas Frank is keen to retain his top player and expressed his delight at the prospect of Toney staying for the new season.
Frank stated, “What I’m focusing on is that Ivan is a Brentford player. I’m very pleased he’s here and if Ivan is with us at the start of the season, I’ll be over the moon. I’ve mentioned before that we are a selling club, but I know Ivan is important for us.”
