Manchester United are negotiating a loan with an obligation to buy deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils have been seeking a partner for Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield this summer, and reports from June indicated that Ugarte was a key target for them.
Recently, it has been noted that Ugarte has become the club’s primary focus for this position, with personal terms already agreed upon last month. Ugarte is reportedly making significant efforts to finalize the transfer, but United and PSG have struggled to agree on a suitable fee.
PSG has consistently demanded more than €60 million, a figure United considers excessive. As a result, while negotiations are ongoing, progress has been stalled. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there might be new momentum in the talks.
Romano notes that “Manchester United are working on a loan with an obligation to buy proposal for Manuel Ugarte” and that negotiations will continue under this arrangement with Jorge Mendes leading the discussions with PSG.
The proposed loan deal is important for United given their financial constraints due to strict PSR regulations, as it would help avoid a large upfront payment. Mendes’s involvement is also significant, as his role could be pivotal in achieving a successful outcome. The obligation to buy Ugarte next summer could be a key factor in satisfying PSG’s demands for future guaranteed funds, with United potentially agreeing to a higher fee in the following year.
