Liverpool ready to go all in for Bayer Leverkusen’s super defender

Liverpool are intensifying their efforts to acquire Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie, aiming to surpass Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid in securing the skilled defender. The club views Hincapie as a crucial addition who could bolster their defense for the long term.

Initially, Sporting director Richard Hughes had targeted Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad as a key signing for the Arne Slot era. However, with Zubimendi choosing to remain in Spain, Liverpool has shifted focus towards acquiring a new center-back and a wide player. There are also reports suggesting that Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman is being considered, with the club potentially making a move for the former Everton winger.

Recent updates from Spain suggest that Liverpool has prioritized Hincapie as their main defensive target. The club has been tracking his development for several months and is eager to bring him to Anfield. Despite Xabi Alonso’s intention to retain the Ecuadorian at Leverkusen, Liverpool remains optimistic about persuading the Bundesliga club to sell, especially with the right approach.

With a valuation of €60 million (£51.1 million), Hincapie could potentially serve as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, enhancing Liverpool’s defense for the future.

Liverpool is also considering Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio as an alternative, though Hincapie remains their top preference. As the transfer window nears its end, Liverpool supporters will be eagerly awaiting news on whether the club can secure this highly-rated defender.
