Barcelona is actively working to enhance their squad during the summer transfer window with a major acquisition that is expected to significantly impact their team for the upcoming season.
It appears that Laporta has given up on securing the talented Spanish winger Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao and is now exploring other options to bring in a new player this summer.
In this context, the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported that Barcelona’s management is very interested in signing Portuguese star Rafael Leao from AC Milan during the summer transfer period.
Barcelona’s efforts to acquire Nico Williams, the standout player from Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team, fell short after the player expressed his intention to remain with his current club for at least one more season.
The newspaper also noted that Joan Laporta is highly impressed by Rafael Leao’s skills and envisions forming a dynamic attacking trio with Lewandowski, Yamal, and Leao. It was mentioned that Leao’s current valuation is approximately 90 million euros, and Barcelona might have the funds available, including those originally set aside for Nico Williams and proceeds from player sales, to meet this price.
“Mundo” further reported that Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who has a strong rapport with Joan Laporta, could facilitate this transfer before the end of the transfer window. It is important to note that Rafael Leao’s contract with AC Milan extends until the summer of 2028, and the Italian club is unlikely to part with the Portuguese player easily.
