Fantasy Premier League participants have been advised to be cautious of Arne Slot’s potential unconventional tactics at Liverpool when selecting their teams for the current season.
The FPL season commenced last weekend, featuring a range of price adjustments and new additions for 2024/25.
While some team managers had a successful start, it can be disheartening to see a few of your starting players not being chosen by their teams, which means using valuable transfers early on.
Liverpool mostly fielded the expected lineup in Slot’s debut match, a 2-0 victory over Ipswich at Portman Road. Slot substituted Jarell Quansah for Ibrahima Konate, with neither player receiving a clean sheet bonus as a result.
Liverpool.com has highlighted a similar tactic from Slot that might impact FPL managers this season. Last year, Slot frequently substituted his wingers before the 60-minute mark. For instance, Luka Ivanusec played 58, 59, 54, and 57 minutes in four of six consecutive league games.
Forward players, unlike defenders, don’t get clean sheet bonuses but earn an extra point and miss out on the additional point for playing 60 minutes. Being substituted early also limits their chance to influence the game and score more points.
Slot explained his decision to replace Quansah at half-time by stating that tactical adjustments are necessary when losing duels, and he felt Konate was needed to handle aerial challenges from the opponent’s striker.
