Arne Slot just addressed his heated exchange with Trent Alexander-Arnold on subs bench

It’s no surprise that footballers want to play as much as possible, even if it may not always be in their best interest.

Some may look to find underlying issues between Arne Slot and his key players, particularly with vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 45-year-old coach might have disappointed Liverpool’s rivals by explaining (through comments shared on X by Lewis Steele) that the decision to substitute the fullback was made to ensure his fitness for the entire season.

Arne Slot on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s reaction to being substituted: “I understand every player wants to play the full match. But even the players on the bench weren’t thrilled with my decisions. We need to manage him carefully because he’s essential for us.”

The Merseysiders secured a return to the top four with their solid 2-0 win over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold’s frustration is not a major concern

While the situation is slightly tense given Alexander-Arnold’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, Liverpool currently holds the advantage in securing his future.

If substituting our No.66 in the 72nd minute helps ensure he remains fit and effective throughout the busy 2024/25 season, we fully support this decision here at Empire of the Kop.
