Pundit claims Man Utd are actively trying to sell star who cost them defeat at Brighton

Joe Cole claims Manchester United is actively seeking to offload a player who contributed to their disappointing Premier League loss to Brighton on Saturday.

Antony, the Brazilian winger, had another unimpressive performance during his time at Old Trafford. He began the match on the bench and only entered the game during stoppage time, which played a role in United’s defeat.

Cole criticized Antony for failing to “put his body on the line,” suggesting that the 24-year-old ended up “costing” his teammates and the club. Antony was criticized for a weak challenge that led to Brighton’s late win.

Despite Manchester United paying a hefty £80 million to acquire Antony from Ajax in 2022, his stint at Old Trafford has not lived up to expectations.

Cole speculates that Antony is likely eager to leave, and United seems keen to move him on before the summer transfer window closes. Cole remarked to TNT Sports, “Manchester United brought on Antony, who, with all due respect, probably isn’t happy to just play 10 or 15 minutes.” He noted Antony’s high price tag and implied that the winger and the club are both ready for a change.

Cole also highlighted Antony’s lack of effort when crucial moments required him to step up, contrasting this with the impressive performance of Brighton’s substitutes. This situation suggests that Antony might be pushed out of Old Trafford.

Earlier this summer, Antony’s agency stated he was focused on revitalizing his career at United, but there have been ongoing links to a potential departure, making it seem increasingly likely he could leave.
