Manchester United is poised to part ways with midfielder Hannibal Mejbri in the last week of the summer transfer window. The Tunisian international is set to have a medical at Burnley on Monday, indicating his imminent exit from Old Trafford.
United has been willing to let Hannibal go this summer, and it seems they have now finalized an agreement for him to leave the club. Reports suggest that Hannibal will initially join Burnley on loan, with a compulsory clause to make the transfer permanent next year. Furthermore, Manchester United is likely to include a substantial sell-on clause in the arrangement and might also secure a future buyback option.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on social media, stating that Burnley and Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement for Hannibal’s transfer. Romano noted, “Burnley have reached a verbal agreement to sign Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United. Medical tests are happening today, with the transfer finalized as a loan with a mandatory purchase clause. The deal is nearly complete.”
Burnley is said to be impressed with Hannibal’s experience, particularly his prior loan stint in the Championship with Birmingham City. Additionally, the 20-year-old has earned 27 caps for the Tunisian national team, showcasing his potential.
Last season, Hannibal was on loan at Sevilla in La Liga. However, the Spanish side opted not to trigger the €20 million option to buy him permanently. This deal also featured a fixed buy-back clause and a sell-on clause, which are anticipated to be part of his new arrangement with Burnley.
Manchester United initially acquired Hannibal from AS Monaco five years ago for €10 million, fending off interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City. During his time at United, Hannibal made 13 first-team appearances, including a notable performance against Burnley at Turf Moor last season. His move to Burnley signifies the end of his tenure at Old Trafford and the start of a new chapter in English football.
