Liverpool announced the signing of Alan Varela this morning on Deadline Day.

Liverpool is reportedly working on acquiring Porto midfielder Alan Varela.

Journalist Luis Fregossi from Mundo Boca Radio reports that Liverpool has submitted a formal bid for the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, and the Argentine international is anticipated to join the club before the transfer window ends.

Liverpool has shown interest in Varela for a while, first inquiring about him in April. Varela is highly regarded across Europe and could significantly enhance Liverpool’s squad.

The team is seeking a high-quality defensive midfielder this summer, particularly since Alexis Mac Allister, who played in that role last season, is better suited for a more advanced position.

Although Liverpool signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart last season, they still need a player of higher quality to contend for major titles.

Varela, with his established quality in Portuguese football and his physical and technical skills, could fulfill this need. His addition would bolster Liverpool’s midfield, improving defensive protection and allowing more freedom for creative players.

For Varela, joining a club like Liverpool would be a compelling opportunity, and he would likely aim to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

Liverpool is now focused on completing the transfer before the window closes today as they prepare to vie for major honors this season.
