Al-Khelaifi plans to sign Barcelona star for free: the Player refuses to renew

Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a close watch on several Barcelona players with the intention of achieving similar success to their past transfers, including Neymar Jr., Lionel Messi, Xavi Simons, and Ousmane Dembele.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi is strategizing a new approach to counter Joan Laporta’s plans and has identified several players of interest to Luis Enrique, such as Pedri Gonzalez, Ronald Araujo, Pablo Baez “Gavi”, Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde.

According to El Nacional, Frenkie de Jong has become a key target for PSG, as securing the Dutch midfielder has become a significant focus for the Parisian club. The report indicates that PSG have been in discussions with De Jong’s representatives for some time, hoping to persuade him to join the French league and leave Barcelona, where he is considered a leading figure.

De Jong, who missed much of last season due to ankle issues and might require surgery, is expected to be sidelined for several more months. Despite this, PSG are prepared to be patient and aim to acquire him in the next transfer window. The club has already strengthened its midfield with the additions of Joao Neves and Desiree Doue, and has Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery on its roster. Nonetheless, De Jong would be a valuable addition to the team.

PSG have been working to convince De Jong to forgo extending his contract with Barcelona, which is set to expire in 2026. If he does not renew, De Jong could potentially move at no cost, allowing PSG to sign him for a relatively low fee next summer. Currently, De Jong is rejecting all of Barcelona’s contract extension offers and is unwilling to lower his substantial salary, the highest in La Liga.

If De Jong maintains his stance, his exit from Barcelona seems likely, and PSG stands ready to welcome him.
