Manchester United has reportedly dispatched scouts to observe a player considered “one of the best young talents in world football,” who has also reacted to the interest.
The club adjusted its transfer approach this summer to prioritize younger players following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake acquisition.
Eighteen-year-old Leny Yoro was signed from Lille for £50 million, though fans have yet to see him in action due to a metatarsal injury. Additionally, on deadline day, they brought in lesser-known midfielder Sekou Kone, also 18, from Malian club Guidars. Now, they are allegedly pursuing another promising talent.
According to Norwegian source TV 2 Sporten, scouts were present at Rosenborg’s match against Lillestrom on Monday, reportedly focused on midfielder Sverre Halseth Nypan, who started the game.
The 17-year-old, who had previously attracted interest from Arsenal, has responded to rumors of United’s interest in a potential January move. He remarked (as quoted by MUnitedFR): “I didn’t know about it, so I don’t really think about it. It will always be like that, so I don’t think about it. I have to learn to handle it, and I believe I have.”
United’s interest appears to have begun during pre-season when they witnessed Nypan’s skills firsthand. In their opening friendly, they lost 1-0 to Rosenborg, who were in better shape due to their ongoing league campaign.
With several players away for international duty at Euro 2024 and the Copa America, Nypan is said to have impressed those watching. He has recorded six assists and five goals in the 2024 Eliteserien season, including a remarkable hat-trick in Rosenborg’s 4-0 victory over Lillestrom last month.
