Liverpool’s recruitment team pushing Arne Slot to sign top Premier League star next summer

Liverpool’s recruitment team is urging Arne Slot to consider adding Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace to his squad for the 2025/26 season, believing the England international could eventually replace Virgil van Dijk at the club.

Van Dijk’s contract at Anfield expires in 2025, and there’s been no indication of a new deal being offered to the captain. Discussions regarding an extension are expected to start soon, as many anticipate the 33-year-old will continue with Liverpool in the short term.

Even if Van Dijk agrees to a new contract, his time with the team is nearing its conclusion, and the club will soon need to find a successor for the iconic defender.

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool’s recruitment team is pushing for Slot to secure Guehi next summer, as the England star is attracting interest from several top Premier League teams.

However, Liverpool may face competition, as other clubs are also keen on Guehi. Newcastle, for instance, sought to sign the defender during the summer transfer window but had four bids turned down, the last being valued at £65 million. They are likely to renew their efforts, and other clubs will likely enter the race if Guehi performs well this season.

Guehi is on track to become one of the top centre-backs in the Premier League, and it will be intriguing to see how he develops at one of England’s “big six” clubs.

Liverpool had previously shown interest in Guehi over the summer, but a transfer did not materialize as Slot was satisfied with his existing options.

The 24-year-old could be a viable target for Liverpool again next summer, though the club’s immediate priority should be ensuring Van Dijk remains at Anfield for the upcoming season and beyond.
