Liverpool has received a major boost ahead of their Saturday clash with Wolves, as Alisson Becker is set to make his return from a minor injury and will start in goal.
The Brazilian goalkeeper missed the last two matches due to a slight hamstring issue he sustained during Liverpool’s Champions League match against AC Milan last week.
Alisson, 31, has returned to full training this week and participated fully in Friday’s session with the squad to prepare for the game against Wolves.
In his pre-match press conference, Arne Slot confirmed that Alisson is fit to play at Molineux, marking a significant advantage for Liverpool given Alisson’s importance to the team in recent seasons.
“We believe he is ready to play,” Slot stated about Alisson, according to The Athletic. “He trained yesterday with the group and is expected to complete today’s session. So we think he’s available.”
While Slot expressed his satisfaction with Alisson’s comeback, he also commended Caoimhin Kelleher for his performances during Alisson’s absence, emphasizing the depth of Liverpool’s goalkeeping talent.
Despite Kelleher’s impressive showings in the last two games, Alisson’s return may highlight the need for Kelleher, 25, to seek more consistent playing time elsewhere.
With Giorgi Mamardashvili likely to join Liverpool next summer, this season could be Kelleher’s final one at Anfield as he looks for more opportunities outside the club.
