Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker suffered a serious hamstring injury during the team’s 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace, and the club is still awaiting the results of his scan.
The Brazilian collapsed in the second half at Selhurst Park after returning a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The visible pain on Alisson’s face and his response indicated the injury’s seriousness.
As reported by Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo, the club is waiting for the scan results to assess how long he will be out.
Alisson is anticipated to be sidelined for a considerable time, allowing Caoimhin Kelleher to take over.
Kelleher has consistently performed well when called upon and will have an opportunity to make a case for himself ahead of a possible transfer in the summer of 2025, with Liverpool likely looking to sign Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.
There is speculation that Mamardashvili could join Liverpool sooner than expected, with suggestions he might arrive early to take Alisson’s place.
However, this seems improbable, as Alisson is not expected to be out for the entire season, and Valencia, who are currently battling relegation, would be reluctant to lose their goalkeeper.
In the meantime, Arne Slot will depend on Kelleher until Alisson is back, and the Brazilian will need to tackle the ongoing issue of his injuries.
