Mika Biereth, who is currently a striker for Sturm Graz, has shown interest in potentially returning to Arsenal, the club he departed from last summer.
The 20-year-old Danish forward, who faced challenges in establishing himself at Arsenal, remains optimistic about donning the Gunners’ jersey again.
Biereth joined Arsenal from Fulham in 2021, but his time there did not unfold as expected. He found it hard to break into Mikel Arteta’s first team and was eventually loaned to several clubs to gain experience and playing time. His loan periods included stints at RKC Waalwijk in the Netherlands and Motherwell in Scotland before signing with Sturm Graz, where he has performed well enough to earn a permanent contract.
In a recent interview with TV2, Biereth discussed his experiences at Sturm Graz and shared his aspirations. He expressed contentment with his current situation, stating, “Things are going well here; I have no complaints. I’m playing regularly and now competing in the Champions League, where I’m eager to score my first goal.”
While he is focused on his performance at Sturm Graz, Biereth acknowledged that he would be open to returning to the Premier League, especially to Arsenal, if an opportunity presented itself. Nonetheless, he stressed that his main priority is to maintain his strong performances at Sturm Graz.
“If I keep performing well and scoring, maybe an opportunity will arise. But right now, my priority is to excel at Sturm Graz. A return to Arsenal would be fantastic, but it’s not my immediate focus,” Biereth stated.
His comments indicate that while he dreams of rejoining Arsenal, he doesn’t expect it to happen soon. The likelihood of his return remains uncertain, as Mikel Arteta has confidence in the club’s current attacking options, including players like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard. This depth in forwards contributed to Arsenal not pursuing a significant striker acquisition in the last transfer window, despite links to prominent forwards like Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Additionally, there has been ongoing speculation about Gabriel Jesus’ long-term future at Arsenal due to his recurring injuries, which might create a chance for the club to explore further forward options in the future. However, at this time, Arsenal does not seem to be actively searching for a new striker.
While Biereth’s return to Arsenal isn’t on the immediate agenda, his current form at Sturm Graz and developments at the Emirates Stadium could potentially pave the way for a future comeback. If he continues to progress as a player, Arsenal may take notice, and Biereth could eventually find himself back in North London, ready to aid the team’s success. For now, his focus remains on excelling in Austria and enhancing his game.
