Initially, referee Robert Jones issued a yellow card, but after a VAR review, he was prompted to reassess his decision. Upon reviewing the footage, Jones upgraded the yellow to a red card, sending Saliba off.
After the match, the Premier League released a statement clarifying that Saliba was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, which only warrants a one-match suspension instead of the standard three.
Consequently, Saliba will miss Arsenal’s next game against Liverpool but will be available for selection afterward.
