Set to officially take charge after departing from Sporting Lisbon on November 11, Amorim has identified four players he considers excess to his requirements. Brazilian internationals Casemiro and Antony, both acquired under Erik ten Hag for a total of €170 million, have been listed for transfer as Amorim seeks to initiate a fresh start. Veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen, deemed too old for Amorim’s long-term strategy, will be available at a lower price, alongside defender Victor Lindelof, who is not favored in Amorim’s defensive setup.
Amorim signed a contract extending to 2027 with Manchester United, who activated his €10 million release clause to facilitate his transfer from Sporting. At just 39 years old, the Portuguese coach is viewed as one of the most promising managerial talents in Europe, having secured five trophies with Sporting since his appointment in 2020, including two league championships. He also played a key role in developing several young players, such as prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres. Despite his ties to Sporting, Amorim has stated that he does not plan to target any of his current players in the January transfer window, focusing instead on both incoming and outgoing transfers.
