However, off the pitch, there is a concern troubling the club. According to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona has been waiting for several weeks for a reply from Frenkie de Jong (27 years old) regarding a potential contract extension, but the response is yet to come.
Spanish media reports suggest that Barcelona suspects the Dutch midfielder is delaying his decision in order to leave on a free transfer when his current contract expires in June 2026. Although De Jong is a crucial player for coach Hansi Flick, he remains at odds with the club’s management, who he has not fully forgiven. In fact, the tensions stem from a previous attempt by Joan Laporta and his team to sell him to Manchester United, which remains a sore point for De Jong.
