Three Barcelona players ‘warned club not to sign Marcus Rashford’ before Man Utd forward joined Aston Villa

At least three Barcelona players allegedly advised the club not to pursue Marcus Rashford from Manchester United prior to his loan move to Aston Villa, although he wasn’t the only prospective signing discussed.

Rashford finalized a loan transfer to Aston Villa on Sunday, joining the team until the season’s end after being sidelined by Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim for almost two months. The 27-year-old forward might secure a permanent transfer in the summer, as Villa holds an option to purchase him for an estimated £40 million.

Before his loan switch, Rashford had been connected with several major clubs, including Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan, though none of those transfers materialized. Barcelona, in particular, was hindered by financial challenges that made it difficult for them to register current players like Dani Olmo.

Signing Rashford would have posed difficulties for Barca because of La Liga’s salary cap limits, which would have necessitated the club offloading one of its present players. Reports from SPORT indicate that some Barcelona players expressed worries about this potential move, knowing it might force difficult decisions about the club’s existing squad members.

It is reported that three Barcelona players—Pedri, Gavi, and Ronald Araujo—voiced their concerns over the possible signing of Marcus Rashford. These players, all of whom recently renewed their contracts, were not just worried about Rashford himself but also about any possible signings that could disrupt the squad’s balance.

Rashford’s choice to join Villa rather than Barcelona may lead to a potential encounter with the Spanish club in the Champions League, as both teams have advanced to the round of 16.
