Arsenal fans express their frustration after Newcastle secured a 4-0 aggregate victory in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
After the Gunners’ loss to Newcastle United, fans are calling for Mikel Arteta to take a bold step. The first-leg deficit of 2-0 from the Emirates, thanks to goals by Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, was compounded when Eddie Howe’s side beat Arteta’s team again on home soil, securing a spot in the final at Wembley on March 16.
Jacob Murphy scored first, and Gordon’s second-half goal sealed a 4-0 aggregate score at the energetic St James’ Park.
Despite Arsenal’s impressive 5-1 victory over Manchester City earlier, they were outplayed in the North East as Newcastle executed their strategy flawlessly.
Poor performances came from several Arsenal players, including William Saliba, who appeared unusually unsteady, and David Raya, who made a costly error by passing poorly to Declan Rice in the second half, which led to a Newcastle goal.
However, many Arsenal supporters have shifted their criticism to captain Martin Odegaard. Several fans are demanding that Arteta remove the captaincy from him. The Norwegian squandered a clear chance to give Arsenal the lead and was largely ineffective in the game.
Odegaard was substituted in the 61st minute for Raheem Sterling, and now fans are calling for a change in leadership.
One fan wrote on X: “Strip the captaincy from him now! He’s been so bad this season!”
Another added: “Take the captaincy off Odegaard. Enough is enough, he’s not fit for it.”
A third commented: “Our captaincy needs to be reconsidered. Odegaard is everything but a leader.”

A final user fumed: “Odegaard is a cowardly player. He doesn’t deserve the captaincy.”
Newcastle will face the winner of the second semi-final between Liverpool and Spurs, with Spurs leading 1-0 ahead of their second leg at Anfield on Thursday night.
Newcastle returns to action on Saturday, traveling to League One leaders Birmingham City in the FA Cup third round, while Arsenal has a break after being eliminated by Manchester United in the third round.
