Manchester United have long pursued Goncalo Inacio, and recent reports suggest they are moving closer to securing his signature. According to an article by O Jogo last night, the headline reads “Manchester United advances for Goncalo Inacio.”
The well-known Portuguese media outlet claims that the Old Trafford club will soon make an official bid for the Sporting CP defender. It is reported that Manchester United have firmly decided to sign Inacio, regardless of Erik ten Hag’s future with the club.
The 22-year-old defender’s current contract with Sporting CP runs until 2027, with a weekly salary of approximately £28,000 and a release clause valued at 60 million euros. Inacio plays a crucial role in Ruben Amorim’s defensive line, having started 28 games in the recent Liga Nos season and contributing to 16 clean sheets for Sporting CP.
Inacio has already secured multiple league titles in Portugal, and it appears he is ready for a move to a bigger club. Manchester United are in dire need of a defensive leader to replace Raphael Varane, and Inacio could potentially form a formidable central defensive partnership with World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez.
However, O Jogo notes that Inacio is also being monitored by Liverpool. The Anfield club is keen to strengthen their defense and can offer Champions League football next season, which might appeal to the Seleccao star who will be participating in the upcoming Euros.
Therefore, Manchester United must act quickly if they are to secure Goncalo Inacio’s services this summer.
