Just in from France: ‘World-class’ star to jet into UK for Man United medical in days

Manchester United is reportedly targeting Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui this summer. Recent reports indicate that a deal is nearly finalized, with manager Erik ten Hag eager to integrate the 26-year-old into the squad before the Community Shield. The move comes as former Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka might be departing, with West Ham United expressing interest.

Mazraoui, a three-time Eredivisie champion with Ajax, is set to become Manchester United’s third summer signing after deals for the injured center-back Leny Yoro and striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has yet to play for the club. According to journalist Santi Aouna on X (formerly Twitter), Mazraoui’s transfer is considered a ‘done deal,’ with a medical scheduled for Tuesday. The Moroccan international, who can also provide cover at left-back, will sign a contract valid until June 2029 with an option for an additional year.

Mazraoui, described as ‘world-class,’ made 29 appearances for Bayern Munich last season, accumulating 1,982 minutes. Despite contributing three assists in 19 Bundesliga matches, he struggled to secure a regular starting role. Since Erik ten Hag took over in 2022, he has faced the challenge of choosing between Diogo Dalot and the soon-to-depart Wan-Bissaka. West Ham is working on a deal for Wan-Bissaka, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United is also in discussions regarding Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich. The Dutch defender has fallen behind others in the Bayern lineup, including Kim Min-Jae and Dayot Upamecano. The injury of young Frenchman Leny Yoro, who could be sidelined for up to three months, has intensified Manchester United’s need for additional central defensive options.
