“When I first got the injury, I believed I’d be fit for the FA Cup final. I pushed myself for that, but a setback the week before ruled me out,” Maguire said. “I then aimed to be ready for the Euros, but another setback during my time with England kept me from playing. It was incredibly frustrating.”
Maguire acknowledged that, with hindsight, accepting his unavailability might have been less difficult. Instead, he was always on the verge of returning, only to face more setbacks.
