A productive summer at Old Trafford seems to be consistently progressing, with several high-caliber players joining the squad.
At present, Manchester United’s interest in Frenkie de Jong has once again become a major topic in football transfer speculation.
According to transfer experts, the Red Devils remain eager to acquire the Barcelona midfielder, aiming to obtain him at a lower cost. This isn’t the first instance of De Jong being on United’s radar, and it likely won’t be the last.
A club source has revealed that Manchester United have proposed a €50m (£43m) offer for the Dutch midfielder this summer.
Footyvaild reports that Barcelona is believed to have turned down this bid, instead asking for around €85m (£73m), with €15m of that amount potentially tied to performance-based add-ons.
Additionally, Erik ten Hag’s appreciation for De Jong is well-known. Having previously managed him at Ajax, Ten Hag is well-acquainted with the Dutchman’s skills.
In July 2022, Manchester United had reached an agreement with Barcelona, but De Jong opted to remain in Catalonia, indicating he wasn’t ready to leave his current team.
Now, the situation has shifted slightly, with United again looking to strengthen their midfield.
