Barcelona is reportedly ready to let Frenkie de Jong go for €60 million, as per Spanish sources.

The Dutch midfielder, who has been rumored to leave Camp Nou since joining in 2019, may finally be on the move, with Barcelona seemingly willing to negotiate a sale this summer.

Manchester United, who have shown long-term interest in De Jong, have come close to acquiring him in the past two transfer windows. Now, the possibility of a transfer appears more promising than ever. Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Barcelona is open to selling De Jong for €60 million this summer.

United is seeking a new central midfielder and has faced difficulties in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, with PSG unwilling to lower his €60 million asking price.

As a result, United is considering alternative options. Sander Berge of Burnley, Joao Gomes, and Youssouf Fofana are among the candidates being evaluated.

With De Jong’s future at Barcelona in question and the club’s revised asking price, United might have a prime opportunity to secure his services. His current estimated transfer value stands at €47.5 million, a drop from the €86.1 million peak in July 2021.

This summer, United has made notable acquisitions, including Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee and Lille’s Leny Yoro for a total of €104.5 million. Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are also expected to join soon.

On the departure side, United has sold Mason Greenwood to Marseille, Willy Kambwala to Villarreal, Alvaro Carreras Fernandez to Benfica, and Donny van de Beek to Girona, with Raphael Varane being the notable free transfer exit.

Barcelona’s openness to selling De Jong at a reduced price could present Manchester United with a significant chance to finally acquire him. While United is exploring other midfield targets, De Jong’s availability might shift their focus back to him.

United’s recent transfer activity, including the anticipated arrivals of de Ligt and Mazraoui, coupled with notable departures, makes this summer an opportune moment for them to secure De Jong and further strengthen their squad.
