At 23, Gordon is considered one of the Premier League’s top wingers, and Liverpool’s interest was confirmed by Amanda Staveley in July.
Jamie Carragher has discussed the potential move, suggesting that a swap deal involving Joe Gomez might have been designed to help Newcastle meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. Newcastle ended up selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to comply with these requirements, but Carragher remains hopeful that Gordon could still join Liverpool this month.
