Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is Xavi’s preferred choice to replace the injured Barcelona star

Barcelona had to adjust their plans for the winter transfer window due to the injury of Gavi. Although there are several potential targets, SPORT reports that Xavi’s preferred option is Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso.

It’s important to note that Lo Celso is contracted with Spurs until 2025. However, coach Ange Postecoglou does not intend to include him in this season’s plans.

Barcelona has shown interest in the Argentine midfielder for some time, and with his limited playtime in London, a move to Barcelona now seems feasible.

Lo Celso has featured in only four matches this season—three in the Premier League totaling 38 minutes and one in the EFL Cup for 45 minutes.

Other players such as Dani Parejo, Guido Rodrigues, and Thiago Alcantara are also under consideration. However, it’s worth mentioning that Lo Celso was nearly loaned to Barcelona during the summer transfer window when they failed to secure Bernardo Silva.

Lo Celso’s versatility aligns with what Xavi is seeking, and he appears open to a move. Despite his limited role at Tottenham, he is eager to return to La Liga, a league he is familiar with from his time with Real Betis and Villarreal.

Xavi believes that the 27-year-old would have a more significant impact compared to other potential signings. If progress is made, a loan offer is expected to be forthcoming.
