Liverpool appears to be making notable progress towards finalizing a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili, aided by another Premier League club.
Spanish journalist Hector Gomez provided an update on X, indicating that ‘negotiations are advancing’ for the Valencia goalkeeper. Due to Premier League rules that prevent clubs from signing a player and then loaning him to another team within the same transfer window, Mamardashvili would move directly to Bournemouth on loan from Valencia, with Liverpool instead securing a right to purchase him rather than finalizing the deal this summer (Football Espana).
According to Gomez’s plan, this arrangement benefits both English clubs: Bournemouth would gain immediate access to the goalkeeper, while Liverpool would effectively secure his permanent transfer, partly due to the financial support from the Vitality Stadium.
Mamardashvili’s reported desire to leave Mestalla for England quickly should facilitate the deal, although some Liverpool fans may remain cautious given the recent collapse of Martin Zubimendi’s transfer to Anfield.
Nevertheless, it seems increasingly likely that Mamardashvili will join Liverpool in the near future, although attention might shift to the futures of Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.
The latter appears likely to move, given that another player is expected to block his path to regular playing time.
While it’s arguable that other positions in Arne Slot’s squad need more urgent attention in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, signing a talent like the Valencia goalkeeper would be a welcome addition, especially after a quiet summer transfer period.
