Thiago Alcantara has reportedly returned to Liverpool after leaving his position at Barcelona.
At the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, the Spanish midfielder departed from Barcelona following the end of his contract.
Despite an encouraging beginning at Liverpool, Thiago’s time at Anfield was significantly affected by frequent injury problems.
Soon after his departure from Liverpool, it was announced that Thiago had retired from professional football. On Instagram, he expressed his gratitude: “I will always be ready to give back what I’ve received and I appreciate the time I’ve enjoyed it.
“Thank you, football. And to everyone who supported me and helped me grow as a player and person. See you soon.”
Thiago subsequently joined Hansi Flick’s staff at Barcelona but left the role after just a month.
According to Spanish news source Marca, Thiago has returned to Liverpool due to the need to stay in the UK for the rest of the year because of tax issues related to the end of his contract with Liverpool.
After departing Liverpool, Thiago wrote a heartfelt letter to the fans.
It said: “Gratitude and appreciation – these are the words that come to mind as I bid farewell to all of you, Reds. I am also thankful for the chance to have been a part of this city, this club, and this community. The unwavering support I’ve received from day one has been extraordinary: Anfield’s cheers, the Kop’s chants… incredible and overwhelming.
“A truly unique fan base for a unique club. The past four years have been a period of learning for me and my family. There were victories and defeats, but it has unquestionably been a life-changing experience.”
The letter further stated: “Teammates, coaches, staff, and club employees: you were all part of this journey. And to the fans, I can’t find the words. Just know that you will always have my deepest gratitude. Thank you; it has been an honor.
“Wishing all the best always, Liverpool FC.”
