Manchester United have unexpectedly pursued another Chelsea player while continuing their talks for Raheem Sterling. The Red Devils are keen on acquiring Sterling after Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, told the winger he was no longer required at Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports reports that Manchester United is also considering a late offer for Chelsea’s young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka. This potential move could occur before the transfer window shuts at 11 pm. Chukwuemeka, who arrived at Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022, made 14 Premier League appearances during his debut season but saw reduced playing time last year and has yet to be included in any of Chelsea’s matchday squads under Maresca.
While negotiations for Sterling’s transfer to Manchester United are ongoing, it appears that he may end up joining Arsenal instead. Nonetheless, United is still likely to complete a deal with Chelsea, with Jadon Sancho reportedly on the verge of an unexpected move to Stamford Bridge. Sancho’s potential transfer is said to be a separate transaction from any discussions involving Chukwuemeka.
Chukwuemeka is among several players Chelsea is considering selling before the summer transfer window closes. The club is undergoing significant changes under Maresca, resulting in a squad reshuffle. Jamie Redknapp, a former professional footballer and pundit, has shown concern for some Chelsea players, suggesting that they might be struggling with the club’s current upheaval.
